Color Study // Pretty In Athens Pink

For months now, I’ve been obsessing over houses – the combination of the structures and colors. I’m starting to think that my future home is going to be real wild. It’s going to consist of color blocks. I’m really loving color blocks.

I’ve been especially obsessing over pink houses. The construction of Greek houses and apartments are much different than what you’d see in America. Seeing them painted pink makes them even more interesting. A lot of the apartment buildings here are either an orangey-peach or peachy-pink. They’re all very peachy.

Day Trip To A Certain ‘Shmarkopoulo’

I took a trip yesterday with my uncle and the baby to visit his parents. They don’t live too far away – they’re still in Athens. Like, “suburban” Athens. Suburbia in Greece is so much different than what you would imagine. Not even close to the cookie-cutter image you may be thinking of.
But anyway, I haven’t been to that house in eleven years.

Characteristics Of Greece

I’m slowly figuring out the main characteristics that make this country strong in every way that is not financial, hah. Because their financial state is so weak, they successfully make up for it everywhere else.

Being anywhere long enough, you can spot the daily customs that make up a specific place. When you hear about Greece, most of these characteristics are brought up quite a bit, and they’re spoken about so much because they’re true.
Here’s some validation featuring photos.

Protest In Athens

Protest In Athens, Greece

I’m not political, in fact I don’t know much happening in the world of politics in general. I’m completely clueless. But with the craziness happening in Greece right now, I can’t help but talk about it.

Shower Thoughts

Streets of Athens, Greece

(Athens on a nice, sunny day. ☀ Unrelating to showers, I know. )

Shower time is my personal thinking time. I’ve become a pro at questioning the most random of the random while I’m scrubbing my hair, as I’m sure it is a good thinking time for other people as well.
So here are some random thoughts I’ve had while being here in Greece. Only have been here a full week and I’ve had a lot on my mind already questioning the differences between Europe and America.

The Wrath of Mercury

Mercury In Retrograde

I have landed in Athens. Been here for a little less than a week. Still adjusting to the time change, have obtained wifi, figured out adapters and convertors that work with my electronics, and I’m slowly making my rounds to visit family.

Everything is fine and dandy now, but I can’t even tell you the hell I went through to get here. All I kept hearing from everyone was “Mercury must be in retrograde“. After I have arrived, I Googled it, and yes yes, Mercury is indeed in retrograde. I don’t know much about astrology, but whenever a situation occurs in which the alignments of the stars and planets affect my everyday day life, I do my research. I read that Mercury affects travel (along with other things), and my travel was affected for sure.

Jazzfest 2015 Recap

Note: this was written up yesterday but couldn’t find a chance to do my final edits before posting, so therefore it’ll be an “Entertain Me Tuesday” post.

Jazzfest 2015

My first festival experience for sure was interesting, but I would say it wasn’t anything more than average. Crowded, hot, but exciting to share the experience with so many other people that are there for the same reason you are.

Color Study // NOLA Edition

Finally found some downtime to post at least a little sumthin’ sumthin’. It’s been a super non-stop active bunch of days, and if I can share without sounding whiney, my body is a bit sore.

This is my first time in New Orleans, as I’ve shared before, and although the south is foreign to me, New Orleans feels familiar. I personally sense some similarities to Portland, which could be why this city feels familiar.
Like I predicted, I’m enjoying the art scene much down here. Both visual and audio. Their music scene is so LIVELY. Murals everywhere, art vendors left and right, and hot diggity dawg, their houses are so damn precious. I love the colorful shotgun houses; I’ve been photographing strangers’ homes more than anything else so far.

(Exhibit A ⤴ )

So I guess I wanted to share some of my trip I documented so far. Here’s a small batch of colorful things around the city I have seen that caught my attention.
