One thing I love about when Autumn rolls around is the amount of cute, festive Halloween goods I come across. I sort of make it a personal annual tradition to go shopping for Halloween themed goodies. For me, I like having year round things that I could use that are fun and spooky. This season so far I’ve found a candy corn ring, retractable pumpkin pens, black cat bowls, and this unfinished little coffin I bought from the local craft store.
For over a week, I contemplated how I want to decorate it. I searched for inspirational images via Google, but they were mostly shadow boxes of sorts which I didn’t want to do. These days I figured if I collect little boxes such as this, I need to have uses for them. So I decided I would like to turn it into a little storage coffin box. Maybe for paper clips or something.
I drew a design on the coffin, which I didn’t mean to imitate super hero logo designs. I couldn’t help but want a lightning bolt!
My colors, I’ve come to realize, are pink and seafoam, but I wanted to switch it up a bit. Purple replaced the pink and I think it looks real fun with the seafoam.
When I did my research, I saw some pretty elaborate decorations with lace and skeleton hands. I didn’t have skeleton hands but I did have lace. I decided against the lace as I didn’t have a creative idea on how to incorporate it. I kept it somewhat simple by adding this “lace” around the sides with a row of a bead string. I also have a plethora of little google eyes.
Gluing the beads became a little bit of a process because I used regular white glue. I know I could have easily used my handy hot glue gun but I was afraid of not being able to control the amount of glue exiting the gun. It probably would have looked bad. Lucky for me, I have a whole lot of patience to work on this for longer than two days. Glue dries real slow.
I’ve got the Halloween spooky spirit!
