Quick Color Block Canisters

Nail polish is my new go-to paint source these days. Any project I work on, I bring out my pail polish before acrylic. The gloss finish is more appealing, and I have a ton of color variety of nail polish. It just kinda works for me right now.

With that said, I’ve been spotting a lot of home goods with dual tone color blocks, such as canisters, planters, mugs, etc. I’ve really been digging that color block look, so I silently questioned to myself what we have in the house that I could do a quick color block project with, and our sugar and flour canisters came to mind.

They’re both the same color and there’s nothing to differentiate the two unless we pop a quick look inside. So I grabbed my blue painters tape and two nail polish colors I thought would be nice. My roommate and I agreed on metallic pink and a glossy grey.

I kinda just chose a height at random of how much color to paint, and I taped off both canisters at the same place. I propped them up to make it easier to paint, and I just started painting.

Both canisters needed quite a bit of layers to make sure the black didn’t peak through. It was a little annoying to wait for them to dry, but I was able to bounce back and forth between the two.

When I felt happy with the amount of color was painted, I waited for them to dry and I peeled off the tape. Voila!

They add a nice little pop of color and it’s easier to grab the correct canister the first time around since they’re pretty much color coded. A little bit of color can really brighten up one’s space.
