Mid-Year Review

It’s crazy to believe that 2019 is more than halfway through. From what I’ve discussed and lived through with family and friends, this year has been quite a roller coaster ride for everyone. I personally feel like I’ve experienced some growth, but also feel like I’ve taken two steps in other areas of life.

Here’s where I’ve been ~

// Career //

I started a new job at the end of January. I wasn’t too thrilled at my previous job, so it was a relief to start fresh with new responsibilities surrounded by new faces. It’s officially been six months since I’ve started there, and I’ve truly been super happy.

Birthday Gift Wrapping

It was my friend Gabby’s birthday early in November. I don’t know what exactly sparked me to partake in getting into the mode of making her birthday present pretty.

Well, I kinda do know. I took a trip to a stationery store in Montclair, New Jersey called Parcel and it got me hyped. Their embellishment packs, stamps, vintage paper, and all the variety of goods really made me feel like I needed to step up my gift wrapping game. This was my first attempt at it and it makes me all ready to go wild and crazy for wrapping Christmas presents.

What I Learned After Constantly Revamping My Resume

Mostly after high school comes the task of putting yourself under a serious light by gathering your professional life and putting it on paper. It’s kinda stressful in the beginning when it feels like you don’t have much to share, but let me tell you, it continues to be stressful. I can’t tell you how many iterations of my resume I’ve had. Starting off in a word document, overdoing it in illustrator, trying to tone down but having to increase the font size to make it seem like a full page of experience, and then being told that it’s too busy and bright. Just like, ups and downs and revisions and color and no colors and minimal colors and adding more and subtracting unnecessary info, etc. I’ve been through all the changes, and I guess writing it down in list form is something I want to do to share what I’ve experimented with and what I’ve learned.

Tarot To-Go // October 30 – November 5

Guest post written by Victoria

Astrologically speaking, there’s a lot happening; with Halloween tomorrow, a lot of aspects and planetary shifts are converging into one L.A. style gridlock of energies. Mercury, the planet of communication, is headed out of transformation and destruction loving Scorpio and into truth seeking Sagittarius. Change is often the product of the revelation of great honesty, so Sag’s blunt nature means a lot of us could have some grand, sweeping changes come crashing through the skylight of our lives. The challenge is to channel our inner Teddy Roosevelt to “speak softly and carry a big stick.” This is a time to not only share stories but to listen to the other stories around us. Really listen – – and learn. Just because two people see things from two different perspectives doesn’t mean either of those perspectives are invalid. Your experience of the world is just that – – yours. Nobody is going to have the same one.

Sleepy Hollow + Tarrytown Adventures

A few weeks ago, I took a trip over to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown with a few friends. We figured Sleepy Hollow would be a fun destination for the spooky Autumn season, and being that it’s not far from home at all, it was a fun day trip to take.

Fuzzy Dresser Drawers

Before the company I work for enforced a textile recycle program, I used to grab fabric from the trash bags other designers threw out. Literally, so. much. fabric.
I came across a small bag of fuzzy material that was being trashed and I couldn’t just leave it behind. I took it and ran.

As for the dresser, I had this wooden dresser since as long as I could remember. Knobs were falling off, the drawers got all scratched up – it was a bit of a mess and I wanted to fix it real bad. I thought to glue on the fuzzy material and buy new knobs and BAM – a fresh and fun dresser.

My Top 5 Adhesives & Glues

I’ve used my 28 years searching for the best glues and adhesives for all the sorts of projects I do on a daily basis. Glue is super important for a lot of the crafts that I work on, and it’s taken me a while to figure out which types and brands work best.

After all these years, I’ve discovered what my top 5 favorites are that are worth using consistently.

Secret Beauty Product

For a little over a year, I’ve been working on illustrations and collages for online website Ok Whatever, which just officially launched last week. Watching a project -not mine for a change- be molded and prepared to the extent this website has is a true form of patience and professionalism. I give Jessie, the owner of the website, a lot of credit for all the hard work and dedication she put into to make sure the content is there, fitting into the weird subject matter the website is all about.
