Five Ways Broad City is Changing the Media for Us Broads

Guest post written by Victoria

Broad City Art

I hated Broad City the first time I watched it. It seemed like nothing more than televising a web series made by Upright Citizens Brigade alums Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. It also seemed like Comedy Central’s answer to HBO’s Girls and I’ll bet a whole lot of ladies felt the same way. But with their time slot right after the frequently over-the-top Workaholics, another CC original and personal favorite of mine, I ended up giving the broads a shot for an entire season and realized my original assessment was not only completely unfounded but wrong; Broad City is actually the greatest show ever, pretty much, and here’s five reasons why they’re going to change media for women.

Homemade Banana Ice Cream

Homemade Banana Ice Cream

So I’ve been coming across a whole lot of one-ingredient and two-ingredient recipes that seem pretty awesome. One that really stood out was turning straight up bananas into ice cream. I know, it sounds cray cray!
I was curious as to how it would work, so I tried it myself.

My Rebellion Against Rebellion

(I just love this picture for some reason. Sorry Gabby!)

With my birthday recently passing, I can’t help but take a step back and look at my life leading up to this point. And there are some thoughts I need to share. I channeled my bitter 13 year old self to help me write this.

Graduating college for sure is much harder than graduating public school, which is why people tell you to stay in school for as long as you can. I can understand that now. Adult life sucks. Especially when you’re in a rut not feeling too much like an adult. I’m still on my path to discovery. This “identity crisis” brings back memories from when I was in my teenage years when I tried to find my “identity” the first time around. I keep reliving those feelings. I really do feel like I’m 13 again.
I have a lot of time on my hands these days, and I can’t help but look back and reevaluate the decisions I made, and what I did that made me… me.

Hair Care 101

Hair Care Tips

I want to start off by saying I’m not a hairdresser or a professional of any sort. I’m just a hair-doer and after experience and learning on my own, I have gathered tips for myself that I want to share.

Hand Sewing VS Machine Sewing

(Awesome thrift store find that I didn’t purchase. ⤴ )

Even though I feel like it’s completely personal preference, I believe a large portion of those who sew use a machine.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m big into hand sewing. I can’t help but feel that I have more control over the stitches I sew, and it’s always been my stronger suit than the machine. But also looking at my past, it was more convenient for me to hand sew since I had the luxury of taking my time and perfect the slower method.

This To That // Plaid Edition

One thing I haven’t been tackling much on this blog so far is my crafty stuff. I initially wanted it to be the majority of the content posted. I never thought I would do some much writing, but I guess I have a lot to talk about.
This blog is still super fresh and it’s in its beginning stage, but over at my old blog, I posted crafty projects left and right and I want to get back on that track.

Now, I’m not very good at DIY tutorials, but I am all about showing my methods on how I’ve tackled projects. You can take from it what you will. Some methods don’t work for you as they do for me, so I encourage you experiment and find what works for you. I encourage DIY where something sparks you to create in the way that you want to create.

Rediscover Your Hobbies

(Screenprinting – one of the recent hobbies I took up. ⤴ )

Hobbies are subjective. We all have our own interests; different things make us happy, which makes us all unique. I’d like to think this is obvious stuff, but I needed an opening paragraph with a point.

But from recent observations, I feel like we as people don’t give enough attention to the things that make us happy. After a long hard day at work, who has the energy and will power to continue being somewhat active when you’re drained and all you wanna do is put on a documentary on that was recommended to you by Netflix and pass out on the couch?

#pdxcarpet

#PDXCARPET

I don’t know of any other carpet that can spark as much conversation as the Portland Airport carpet.
The iconic design has been turned into socks, shirts, mugs, phone cases, etc. Seriously, it’s such a beloved treasure among Portland people, and visitors as well. I don’t think any other airport in general gets as much attention as PDX does. Check out the hashtag #pdxcarpet in Instagram – SO many “from where I stand” inspired photos featuring the carpet. I took one myself as well (see photo above).
