I got a kick out of writing up this list of songs featuring names and prefixes, so I want to take it to another level today and single out the 90’s decade and share songs with names from over fifteen years ago. There are so many gems, but these especially stand out for me, in alphabetical order of course!
Everybody has something to say about art school, whether they were an attendee or not. It’s viewed as a joke from outside perspectives, and it’s even kind of viewed as a joke from inside perspectives.
Here’s the thing, every school produces a different experience. It can even become a different experience for people attending the same school. People handle the stress and pressure differently, and I have witnessed cliques formed as well as lone wolves consistently going it alone. There’s no way to determine what school is the best to attend because it depends on what professors are on the current roll call, and your possible classmates that will be suffering through school with you. Art students are thought as “stuck up hipsters”, and while some may be, there’s a chance you’ll come across some keepers that you’ll include in your daily doings. You can’t really ever know what to expect.
When I was in Greece, I couldn’t help but take advantage by asking family about stories from my parent’s youth. Accompanied with the stories were old photo albums that were loaded with photos I’ve never seen before. I’ve only seen my dad’s baby photo and his army photo when he was in his early twenties. Those two and that’s it, so it was a treat to see more than just those two photos.
Of course, there were a few gems that stood out that made me think “he/she looks like [insert name]” and I created little collages since I got a kick out of it.
It’s not very hard to entertain me.
As I still praise all the good things coconut oil has done for me over the years, I’ve decided to take a break.
My coconut oil downfall began near the beginning of my trip to Greece. Instead of packing my half empty jar, I decided to transfer the remaining oil to another container. I need to point out that it was solid before and after I left. With the heat rolling in about two weeks after I arrived, boy oh boy did all hell break loose. If you don’t know, coconut oil stays solid in temperatures under 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Greece started to reach the 80s and 90s which is when my oil melted. And when I say melted, it reached maximum liquid consistency, and the mess was unbearable. I thought I packed it in a decent container, but it became nothing but trouble for me. Seriously, oil was everywhere. I couldn’t stuff it in the fridge because I stayed with family – besides not wanting to explain what it is, their fridges are small with absolutely no room for even a small container like what I had.
After being in Europe for three months, I have grown to appreciate American culture a little more. Europe is a place everyone wants to escape to, be it vacations or daydreaming of living in a cottage in the country by the sea with no distractions and the quiet subtle rumbling of the oceans hitting the rocks. Pretty elaborate visual, but I’m sure we’ve all had a daydream or two like that.
Being away from my normal everyday environment, submerged in a different culture, made me miss what I know. And for that, I’m sure I won’t make a permanent move out of America any time soon. Believe me, I strongly considered it. I didn’t want to talk about it until I was sure, but this trip to Greece was half a test to see if I could find a way to live there. After graduating, I was frustrated with the pressure and the feeling of having to put my life together, find a job, move out, and live like an adult. Things didn’t work out as I hoped, made a lot of physical moves and my mentality kinda took a dive. I thought “maybe all of this isn’t for me” – American living, that is.
Happy Labor Day! I don’t have anything to write about relating to Labor Day, so hopefully I could twist this post around to somehow make it relate by sharing why I love action movies along with the actors working hard not to break a bone.
Growing up with two brothers, I got wrapped into developing similar interests as them. Maybe it was to prove something, or maybe it was a bonding tactic on my end, but whatever the case was, I grew up loving action movies. I had taken karate classes with my brothers, we’d act out action scenes from our favorite movies, and we’d play Mortal Kombat way too much on our beloved Sega Genesis. I actually enjoyed it. Like, a lot. I still played with my Barbies and did other “girl” things, but at the end of the day, I enjoyed being entertained by action and violence.
Not too far from the city center of Rethymno in Crete is and old castle that protected the city against attacks from the water. To get to the castle was quite an uphill battle, which was the worst in the beaming sun.
It was pretty much open land with a few structures which were still mostly intact. They were probably restored as a couple of the buildings were being used as “art galleries”, or so that’s what it seemed like.
Obviously the Fortezza was right above the water. Standing at the castle, there’s a stunning view of the city underneath and a view of the water which was amazing.
I’ve had quite a bit of built up creative energy since I’ve been out of the country for a while. I’m the kind of person that constantly needs project to fall back on when I have downtime, so being away for three months without any projects to do was kinda painful. Luckily, as I mentioned before, my aunt owns a textile shop, and we were walking distance from some local shops selling sewing supplies (alliteration <3).
When I started this project, I didn’t have an idea of what I wanted the finish product to be. I just gathered all sorts of different red fabric from scraps my aunt gave me. I just thought to embroider roses and that’s what I did. Eventually I came to the idea that I wanted to turn them into a banner. I love pennant banners and thought a different take on it would be a fun idea.
So I feel confident saying that I’ve done enough karaoke to be comfortable sharing my “go to” list that I don’t think can really go wrong, just as the title states.
Depending on the crowd and your mood, sometimes these songs don’t quite make the dent you think they would. From my experience, 70% of the time these songs are crowd pleasers and can induce a massive sing alongs. I always love it when that happens.
