Small Business Mindset

In celebration of Small Business Saturday, here’s a tiny memory I would like to share.
It was middle school and I was fully into figuring out how to sew. Even though my grandma was a seamstress for a good chunk of her life, I went on a mission to experiment and teach myself to sew. You can say years of chilling in her basement surrounded by tons of sewing supplies and fabric (her hoarding genes were clearly passed to me), and sitting on her lap stepping down on the foot pedal of her old fashion sewing machine sparked something – it was that very environment I was so used to that encouraged me to do my own thing when I hit my teenage years.

Rag Weave Tote Bags

Rag Weave Bag

Where have I been lately? Finishing up crafts and getting ready for this event I’ll be selling a bunch of my goods at on Sunday. Events always stress me out. I want to do so much, but because of unnecessary stressing and poor time management, I rarely get to accomplish all I want to accomplish. That’s why this time around I kept things simple for myself and I mainly had one goal. ↓

I shared how my dad made me a loom? Well, I’ve been using the crap out of it and I turned my weavings into tote bags.

This To That // Green Velvet Shirt

Green Velvet Shirt

For a long time, I’ve had a goal to pay more attention to my closet. I’ve been wanting to revamp my wardrobe. It’s a slow process, but I’m working on pieces of clothing a little more every year.

I’ve had this green velvet long sleeved shirt that I wanted so badly to believe it fit me well. Truth is, I got slightly wider hips than average, so I felt this shirt accentuated my hips more and made me a bit self conscious. I thought of ideas on how to revamp that shirt and followed through with one.

My Own Custom Loom

Custom Loom

Last week, my mom threw out the idea of me looking into weaving, but more specifically rag weaving. I don’t think I’ve spoken about how much fabric I have, but let’s say I probably am set for life. Containers in my room, under my bed, in unpacked boxes I brought back from Portland, racks in the basement, and a whole load in my Grandma’s basement (let’s say I have no idea how much she has but it’s more than the amount than I have). Yea, I’m set for life.
So my conclusion is that rag weaving is a good way to use my fabric, otherwise it’ll sit around long enough to burden my future grandchildren because I’m a hoarder and I don’t like to throw anything out.

My Top Horror Movie Picks

Horror Movie Finger Puppets

(Some horror movie finger puppets my brother made which are pretty hilarious. You get a gold star if you can name these five!)

While Halloween is still kinda fresh, I still want to linger on the topic of horror movies. It’s the most appropriate time of the year to talk about horror movies and I still want to get in a few more words before we all start thinking about Thanksgiving. Cool? Cool.

Well, the past few days I’ve been watching a lot of horror flicks. After watching all the Halloweens (original 1 – 5 + remake), I thought about what I like in horror movies. I guess what draws me in is a good story line bordering thriller, twists and turns, obviously a high creep factor, and most of the time no monster-like killer. I made myself a list, and I’m gonna share it. Most of these are kinda obscure. I kinda like it like that though.

Arte De Los Muertos

Day Of The Dead is here! I’ve always had an appreciation for this Mexican holiday, but what really drew me in was the traditional Mexican folk art and decorative sugar skulls.

Craft Fairs

Here are a couple of things I bought from some local craft fairs I went to this weekend. ↑ Almond Rose body butter and a pretty beaded bracelet from this “psychic fair” I attended.
Honestly though, I’m not here to talk about what I bought.

In theory, craft fairs are an amazing concept. You have a chance to sell your products while promoting yourself and the things you make. You get the exposure and a way to connect with your customers. All in all, it seems like such a good deal.
But, can we talk about how awkward they are?

This To That // Faux Leather Knee Patch Pants

Faux Leather Knee Patch Jeans
I’ve been trying to stay on a roll with crafting and doing. I’ve also been trying to finish projects and ideas I came up with a while ago, because one of the worst things is letting unfinished projects pile up.

Over a year ago I came across some jeans with patches on the knees. I saw a variety with denim patches and faux leather patches on different colored pants. I really liked this, and figured it was a project I could take on myself. Plus it’s an easy DIY to jazz up some boring pants.

This To That // Wooden Coffin Box

DIY Painted Coffin Box

One thing I love about when Autumn rolls around is the amount of cute, festive Halloween goods I come across. I sort of make it a personal annual tradition to go shopping for Halloween themed goodies. For me, I like having year round things that I could use that are fun and spooky. This season so far I’ve found a candy corn ring, retractable pumpkin pens, black cat bowls, and this unfinished little coffin I bought from the local craft store.

What’s Up With Celebrity Obsessions?

Lately, there’s been a question constantly popping up in my head, and my recent trip to Graceland kinda brought it up again: what’s up with people obsessing over celebrities?

I don’t think we’re the only country to obsess over celebrities and their lives, but the U.S. seems to do a pretty good job at selling the idea to the general public that certain people should be put up on pedestals while creating jobs that are specifically geared towards stalking and photographing said people on said pedestals.
