Sounds kinda full of myself to assume that I know what it’s like to be a mermaid. BUT if I wanted to live the mermaid life, I would be all about things that revolve around scales, glitter, gold, pastel, and elegance. Keeping that in mind, I compiled a list of things that I felt represent mermaids and captures the elegant feeling we all think of when we think of these classy sea gals.
So if you want to live the modern mermaid life, here are materialistic things for you to consider having!
01. Mermaid Shampoo & Conditioner – From reviews I’ve read all over the ‘net, this company has managed to capture exactly what mermaid hair smell like. I have the Shine Spray and it’s the best thing I could have purchased for my hair to shine while smelling uh-mazing.
New year, new goals, new resolutions, new fresh feeling to start doing things. Know that feeling?
I’m really convinced this is the year to be a bad ass boss bitch. 2017: year of the BABB. Here are some ways you can consider becoming a BABB. It doesn’t hurt to expand your self esteem and self worth and everything all about your self.
Learn a new language!
I feel like a lot of people say they’ll learn a new language as a resolution and with so many resources today, there is no excuse. Take local classes, as they’re offered in community colleges, local centers, or online programs such as Rosetta Stone. I recently discovered Fluent City which offers in person classes in New York, Philly, Boston, & D.C. If all else fails, apps such as Easy Ten exists.
Learn a new craft!
Be it knitting, sewing, screenprinting, learning a new craft has its benefits. I’m lucky to have so many outlets here in New York. There are endless amounts of screenprinting spaces, textile studios, sewing circles, and so much more. The cool thing is if you find a studio you like, most spaces offer memberships to use their facilities if you don’t have the space at home. I think it’s a fantastic concept to support local while doing cool things. If you need cheaper options, there are apps such as Craftsy with affordable classes you can download. Or you can even watch YouTube videos for tutorials.
In honor of 2017 and all of its freshness, I thought now would be the ideal time to roll out a spread covering the entire year. Let’s jump right in, shall we?
January 2017
January is all about NEW BEGINNINGS. The past is in the past — leave it there! This card is calling you to step into the future by closing the door on 2016, leaving with it everything you don’t want as part of your clean slate. You have the power to manifest your own world and now’s your chance to craft the life you want! Time to step out of the dream world and bring it into reality — you have the power to do so and the energy is on your side.
February 2017
February will activate our SACRAL CHAKRAS, which will fuel our emotions, creativity, and all of our passions — including sex. If you’re in a relationship, you can expect more frisky times with your partner but also deeper emotional understanding and connectivity. For those of us still riding the single train, it’s time to turn that extra boost of love on yourself! Practicing self-care will set you up for a smooth 2017 but ignore your own needs and the rest of the year will be an uphill battle for you.
March 2017
TEMPTATION will rear it’s hard-to-resist head in March to try and sway us from our progress. Many of us will feel a loss of steam on our New Years Resolutions, or perhaps we’ll be tempted to cheat on partners, or make other choices that has the potential to cause damage — power through this feeling by focusing on that which you really, truly want. Remember: temptation is temporary but the consequences of our reactions to it can have lasting effects.
We all take hundreds, sometimes even thousands of pictures on our phone a year. I tend to delete a lot because lack of storage on my phone, but I figured I’d share sixteen pictures from 2016 which I thought were keepers. I take pictures never knowing what to do with them sometimes, but it’s the memory that counts. And a summary like this at the end of the year is the perfect place to display them.
Aside from all the bad from 2016, these were exciting moments that made last year a pretty decent, colorful, and memorable experience. Sometimes it takes a reminder like this to make you actually take a step back and realize it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
I can’t tell you how long I’ve been working on this project. Probably for over a year? I recently just finished it and what better time to post about it but now in this new year?
So, basically, my brother had a batch of corks and I tried to come up with a simple project to use them. I decided to make a bulletin board.
I just felt it would be best if I cut the corks into thirds. It would make an interesting pattern, and I wanted a large bulletin board with an interesting pattern.
2017 is here which I predict will be an important year for women and our voices. A lot happened last year which encouraged women to not sit down and stay quiet anymore. The times have changed too much for us to revert.
We’re all patiently waiting for January 20th to see how much is necessary for us all to speak up and defend our rights. There have been so many important historical women in history who would turn in their graves if they saw the state of our country today, and in their honor and our freedom, we need to stand up for women’s rights (as well as everyone who will be affected by the Trump presidency).
In a sea full of badass movie characters doing their thing, there are a smaller group of women who kick even more ass and take names. Here’s a tiny list of movies that feature inspiring women who don’t take any crap from anyone.
The Linda Blair we know and love from The Exorcist plays a tough gal taking action to set out and get revenge for her family and friends affected by this violent gang in her city. She single handedly handles them in the way they deserve, and she really gives justice to bad ass chicks with street smarts.
What I learned: it isn’t such a bad idea to balance both book smarts and street smarts. Don’t be afraid to be tough.
Put aside the magic aspect of the movie for a second. This movie was a great ode to misfits featuring a quartet with a powerful take on life, acknowledging their fears and bonding with each other showing their vulnerability. They shared their vulnerabilities and worked with each other to make themselves the best they could be. We all know the magic bit got out of hand at some point, but they were able to do something a lot of people don’t have the guts to do. They sought out ways to make themselves better people, and didn’t let anyone else put them down in the midst of it all. Despite the ending, they did okay.
What I learned: Do what you need to do to make yourself a better person without harming anyone else and ignore those who put you down. And maybe don’t mess with magic.
Basing an opinion entirely on the outrage of the almighty Internet, one might come to the conclusion that 2016 was the worst year in the history of time. Perhaps my glasses run a little on the rose tinted side of the spectrum but I’m not too sure I buy into the hype.
Maybe the magical lens through which I view the world clouds my logical judgement and my mildly Yoda-like state of Zen gives me a different perspective but from where I sit, I view the last 365 days as some really freaking awesome ones. Some of the best, really.
Christmas is in the air, obvz! It’s Christmas Eve!
My family a low key kind, and so our decoration isn’t exactly on point all the time. This is the first year I had the chance to find a tree and decorate myself. Well, along with my roommate. Well, it was really more like “do what you want”, but he was happy with the pom poms, so it was all good.
One thing I love about the city is seeing the holiday cheer and the different kinds of decorations and trees.
I caught myself taking pictures of a bunch of trees and it got me in the spirit.
We were a little late with the Christmas decor in our apartment. It’s our first Christmas here, and we didn’t decorate as much as we talked about doing months ago when we had our first Christmas talk. Obviously a tree was needed but that’s the majority of what we spent money on.
There are real trees available for sale like three different spots walking distance from home, so my roommate and I stopped oneday to see if there was a tree was workable in our small apartment. We found a precious baby tree, which we named Jerri, and we talked about ornament ideas.
After browsing Pinterest, I thought simple pom poms would be cute.
So a quick back story of our pom poms: we were going to make a trip to the local craft store but after attending a booth at the Bust Craftacular fair in Brooklyn last weekend, we obtained SO many free pom poms. This couple was selling handmade jewelry and bought pom poms for some DIY thing to do at their booth with attendees but something went awry and they didn’t have all the supplies they needed, so they were giving away pom poms. They told me to take as much as I wanted, and with their permission, I got greedy and really grabbed enough for our baby tree. Free pom poms: win!
