Beaded Room Divider

As much as I want to preach about how we need positive distractions from the election aftermath, I feel like a hypocrite saying so because I can’t help but ignore positive distractions. I’m frustrated and can’t stop thinking about our future and the people already being affected by the hate that was promoted, but I have to get myself back to my everyday life. And so should you.

Here is a project I had in the back of my mind for a few weeks before I acted on it.
I first came across a wall divider made of rope and it sparked an idea. I looked to Pinterest for more inspiration, as well as bouncing ideas with my roommate.

I liked the idea of beads, and I have a TON of beads I didn’t know how to utilize. They were mostly those chunky beads you use when you’re young to make really colorful and tacky bracelets and necklaces. Being a hoarder, I saved them all and thought hanging them up as room dividers would be a great place to use them.

I bought this rope from Michaels months ago in the clearance section and was excited to have a use for that as well. I roughly measured the distance from the ceiling to ground and just started putting beads on the ropes.

I made loops at the top to hang them. At first I had the intention of buying a bunch of command hooks to hang them on. Since we’re renting, we can’t be making holes in the walls as much as we would like to, so command strips and hooks have been our go-to.
My roommate had a better idea than all those command hooks (because it gets to be excessive after a while). He thought to put up a few command hooks and place a thin tension rod in the hooks. The loops I made to hang the strings were big enough to loop in the tension rod. The cool thing is that if we want to keep adding to the rod, we can do so. We’re not limited to one string of beads per command hook.

So far I’ve made seven strings of beads. Surprisingly I still have a lot more beads I can use so I’m thinking of making more. I want to make the wall divider a little more dense.

We’ve been working to make our apartment more fun, bright and comfortable, and this was a fun addition. There’s also some kind of satisfaction when you use things you had for a long time just lying around.
