Sleepy Hollow + Tarrytown Adventures

A few weeks ago, I took a trip over to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown with a few friends. We figured Sleepy Hollow would be a fun destination for the spooky Autumn season, and being that it’s not far from home at all, it was a fun day trip to take.

I posted about the visit to the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, but there’s so much more to see in the area surrounding the cemetery.

For one, we visited the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, which was pretty darn big. I think we only conquered a small part of the park in which we walked towards the Spook Rock trail. It has an interesting history – read up on it ! I also learned that following a map is not my forte, which I think is pretty important for this park and its trails.

We made an attempt to visit the Tarrytown Lighthouse, but the surrounding area was closed due to construction making it hard for us to walk over. I could be remembering incorrectly, but I think they’re building condos in that area?

Other sights we visited were the Philipsburg Manor, but just more so passing by. We didn’t take a tour inside the manor. It’s steps away from the visitor center, which we took a browse inside. While we were around, we also walked by the rebuilt Headless Horseman Bridge.

We ate at great burgers Bridge View Tavern, and delicious vegan food at Sweet Grass Grill. I had my eye on ice cream at Main Street Sweets, but I was too full to follow through.

Shopping was a little limiting in Tarrytown. We were more interested in the sights and food than shopping, but we popped into a thrift store Star Jewelry. They had a large amount of great vintage finds. I ended up buying a rose gold ring which I haven’t taken off since. We also stopped in Pretty Funny Vintage. They had a nice mix of vintage and new gift goods. I bought a cute dot grid notebook made by Cognitive Surplus.
