One day browsing through the internet, I was looking at some ornate frames and was trying to think of ways to imitate it. I wasn’t about to buy a block of wood and carve shapes and textures into it. So I thought “I have a ton of beads that I can glue onto cheap flat frames”. Maybe paint them all monochrome after that. I kinda just winged it after gluing beads down.
I found cheap frames from the dollar store. I figured they’d suffice. And the color of the frames didn’t matter to me, so I grabbed anything.
I have a lot of odd shaped plastic beads. Big, small, round, shaped, etc. I grabbed a bunch of funky ones and arranged them almost like puzzle pieces to make uneven surface textures.
PVA glue is always my go-to for glue. It’s still liquid glue, so it takes a while to dry, but it’s perfectly strong and it worked well with this project. Oh PVA glue, how I adore you.
After all the beads were arranged, glued down, and dried, I grabbed acrylic paint and painted the frame one solid color. I worked on three frames total with beads. I painted one navy, the second a plum color, and the third a form of dark forest green. They were colors right out of the tube which made it easy to keep a consistent color.
Finally, after a few layers to make the frames fully opaque, I put down a layer of glue using Hard Coat Mod Podge for extra layering security.
I finished these frames before moving out of my old apartment, so I was obviously excited to hang them in my new place. I spread them around my room and they look so good. I have a ton of random beads, so It was nice to use them up in a creative way.
