One thing I haven’t been tackling much on this blog so far is my crafty stuff. I initially wanted it to be the majority of the content posted. I never thought I would do some much writing, but I guess I have a lot to talk about.
This blog is still super fresh and it’s in its beginning stage, but over at my old blog, I posted crafty projects left and right and I want to get back on that track.
Now, I’m not very good at DIY tutorials, but I am all about showing my methods on how I’ve tackled projects. You can take from it what you will. Some methods don’t work for you as they do for me, so I encourage you experiment and find what works for you. I encourage DIY where something sparks you to create in the way that you want to create.
THAT BEING SAID, here’s a recent sewing project I took on. The dress originally was my brother’s robe, and as he was about to get rid of the robe, I snatched it up. I thought it would make a fun dress, but have you ever started a project that you never finished? This was one of the many. I started this about seven years ago. In seven years, your style can change as well as your shape. I think I gained just a tad bit of weight since then, so as much as it still fits me, it’s a bit tight.
I decided to revisit this dress/robe and change it into something I would wear today. So therefore, I cut the bottom off to turn it into a button down shirt.
Sometimes, that kind of simple work isn’t enough for me. I really wanted to add something to the back. I also have the tendency to add patterns on top of patterns that don’t match, mostly cut and sewn in geometric shapes. It clashes a bit, but I think it’s more fun that way.
I’m also a big time hand sewer. I like hand sewing, and at the end of the day I prefer it over using a sewing machine. I’ve been using my machine a lot lately, but I began hand sewing this dress, so I wanted to finish it the way I started.
So, there’s a taste of my personal style. Button down shirts, clashing patterns, geometric shapes, and customized into the max.
