This To That // Green Velvet Shirt

Green Velvet Shirt

For a long time, I’ve had a goal to pay more attention to my closet. I’ve been wanting to revamp my wardrobe. It’s a slow process, but I’m working on pieces of clothing a little more every year.

I’ve had this green velvet long sleeved shirt that I wanted so badly to believe it fit me well. Truth is, I got slightly wider hips than average, so I felt this shirt accentuated my hips more and made me a bit self conscious. I thought of ideas on how to revamp that shirt and followed through with one.

To lose that accentuated hip feeling, I thought it would be a good idea to widen the sides with thin fabric and shorten the front.

I found sheer black chiffon. I cut a thin but long triangle piece off both sides of the shirt. I traced the cut pieces on the black chiffon, but cut it a little wider so it can drape while adding a little more width.
After sewing it all on, I cut the front shorter to create a nice gradual flow.

I was nervous what the the final product would look like and it looked better than I hoped!
Only thing is that it didn’t occur to me how high I cut off the sides. With them being sheer, my bra is a bit visible, but it’s 2015 – I’ve seen much worse. With that said, this was an easy spruce up, and I feel this slight change made this shirt less boring for sure.

I have more ideas that I plan to act on. I’ll meet you back here with an update on my wardrobe revamp!
