Tarot To-Go // Spotlight on Libra

Guest post written by Victoria

Welcome back to another Tarot To-Go on Oddball Era where this week we are shining a spotlight on the zodiac sign Libra!

Probably the most used buzzword associated with Libra is BALANCE. After all, this sign is illustrated by those old fashioned scales. Whenever Libra Season comes around, I always end up thinking of that scene from The Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston. You know the one I’m talking about, right? No? Alright. Let me explain.

The dead make none.

Moses, played by Charlton Heston, has been summoned by the Pharaoh Sethi to explain his actions. See, Moses is adopted and his brother, Ramses, is pretty jealous of all the accolades he’s getting. To prove to their father (the Pharaoh) that Moses isn’t worthy of all his praise, Ramses decides to tattle on his brother’s recent endeavors.

When Moses comes in, Ramses is standing next to Sethi who is sitting next to a scale. The Pharaoh begins listing the accusations against his adopted son.

“You raided the temple granaries?” asks the King.
“Yes,” confesses Moses.
Ramses drops a stone onto the side of the scale facing him and his father, causing the side facing Moses to rise a bit.
Sethi continues, “And you gave the grain to the slaves?”
“Yes, I did.”
Ramses drops another stone onto the side facing him and the Pharaoh, causing the side facing Moses to rise a bit more.
Sethi continues again, “And you gave them one day out of every seven to rest?”
“Yes, I did.”
Ramses drops a third stone onto the side facing him and the King, causing the side facing Moses to rise all the way up.

The Pharaoh is not pleased. He starts freaking out on Moses. Maybe Ramses was right, maybe the King was mistaken to trust his adopted son to the same degree he trusts his biological son. Why would Moses do such a thing? What was he trying to do anyway, win their favor? Become the King of the Slaves? Plan a revolt?

Moses picks up a brick nearby and holds it out for Sethi and Ramses to see. “A city is built of brick, Pharaoh. The strong make many. The starving make few.” He drops the brick onto his side of the scale, causing the side with the three stones — the one facing his brother and the King — to go ratcheting up to the top. Moses smirks and delivers the final blow of logic: “The dead make none.”

Libra as a sign gets a reputation for being a bit of a chameleon. They’ll adapt their personality to the person they’re speaking with. They’ll never give a straight answer in case a strong opinion in either direction upsets the status quo. They’ll give and give and give of themselves to keep the peace. That tends to get frustrating when you’re making plans or if you’re the type of zodiac sign that needs to know someone deeply as they truly are (looking at you, Scorpio). It can sometimes feel like you never really know your Libra friends because they’re so adaptable and accommodating but the reality is that they’re just thinking like Moses.

Doing the right thing isn’t always a matter of making yourself look good. Sometimes you end up looking like the bad guy. Just ask any of your friends with Libra parents what it was like growing up with that kind of energy. Finding a middle ground, that common point between people, is an important foundation of progress. Compromise is key, however, in order to do that? People usually end up getting disappointed. Not everyone can get everything but, with Libra, everyone should get enough. Everyone should get what they need. Libra isn’t trying to win anyone’s favors or become King. Libra just wants to make sure they’re keeping everyone fed and rested and happy so the work can continue. So growth and survival can be maintained.

When Libra Season comes around, it’s time to balance the scales in your own life. Where do you give too much? Where do you give too little? Where do you take too much? Where do you take too little? If you’ve been cutting toxic things from your life — have you cut away too much? Does it feel like there’s nothing left? Did you Marie Kondo your whole world only to discover you got rid of everything? Where do you need to fill in the gaps with new things that serve you? If you haven’t cut anything from your life — do you feel like you’re surrounded by clutter? Like nothing new can come in because you’re weighed down by so much that’s old and worn? Release, release, release. But the key is balance. Lean into the Libra energy while it’s here and try to find some homeostasis in your world.

Do you need some help figuring out what needs to be balanced for you, personally, this Libra Season? Why not consider purchasing a tarot reading from me for some extra guidance? Check out last week’s post where I break down my pricing schedule and explain the spread I’ll be working with until Libra Season ends on October 22nd. That’s right — after that, I won’t be selling this specific reading again so, if you’re interested, take advantage before it’s too late!

That’s about it for this week. Next time we’ll have a good old fashioned reading for the collective where I’ll pull six cards. The spread is inspired by Bakara Winter who does weekly readings on Instagram. You can find her at @everyday_magic. Every week, usually on Sundays, she pulls six cards — past, present, future, body, mind, spirit. Sound exciting? Check back next week to see it!

See you then!
