With Halloween tomorrow, it seems most appropriate to roll out a slightly spooky addition to Oddball Era — Tarot To-Go, a psychic reading and astrological round up to get you ready to tackle the week with the confidence of an Oracle!
Tarot is an intuitive divining art — a way to see into the future that relies on the ability to trust your intuition and higher consciousness. Because it’s intuitive in nature, every reader will have a different method.
My first step is always to set up an altar or sacred space on which to work. I start by bringing the four elements of the planet to the party in the form of water, fire, earth (represented by crystals and shells, the bones of the planet), and feathers or burning herbs to stand for air. I usually sprinkle a little salt down as a base for some added cleansing protection and then take a minute to call upon any spirits, gods, goddesses, or ancestors for support and safety.
Today, in the Spirit of Halloween, I lit a skull shaped candle and waited for the New Moon to set up my space, hoping some of that lunar magic might fill the reading. I called upon the help of Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity and fortune. Then it was time to take several deep breaths, align myself with the Divine, and tap in.
A realignment is in store as we get ready to shift into the latter chunk of the year. Under the influence of a Scorpio New Moon, the focus is on what sort of changes we’ve been making recently in our lives, especially in the areas of finances or career. This card relates back to our Root Chakra, our foundations and safety net, what we have. We are heading into a period of uncertainty but through the uncomfortable bogs we will be given opportunities for growth as…
The fiery energy will be felt as the moon shifts into Sagittarius, a sign all about passion and chasing your dreams. It’s a good time to focus on truth telling, wisdom, intuition, and trusting your inner child. This passion doesn’t have anything to do with other people — it’s self motivated, ignited by tapping into your truest self. When we live from our heart space, we create the life we want to. Which is when…
Whatever ignites your passion on Tuesday? If we chase that, we’ll start to see things fall into place in our favor, like the Universe wants it to happen (because it DOES, really). Again, this is a self motivated passion. Chasing yourself, really. Speaking your truth. To quote a lyricist I know and love dearly, “only strong roots will grow a strong tree.” We must strive to act only from what is true — those strong roots of who we are deep down — and we will get to enjoy the fruits when it blooms. An important tip — enjoy the windfalls when they come because with every gain, there must also be a loss.
As the moon moves into logical and order minded Capricorn, we will be reminded that there will always be setbacks, especially when we live our truths from our heart. But this card reminds us not to get trapped there — for the setbacks are always temporary. If we look through the prison we sometimes find ourselves in, we can see a new day dawning. It is when the setbacks occur that you must surround yourself with loved ones who get you and beef up your support squad by calling friends for a chat or advice.
As we move into the weekend, the Heartache and Loss will provide a new mountain to climb. But if we flip the script, we can learn to see the mountains not as obstacles but as a solid foundation on which to build our new futures. The little aqueducts in the background of the picture remind us that water — life — is always flowing, so no matter what foundations we build, it will always be temporary.
This is my favorite card this week. It reminds us that oftentimes, when we experience heartache and loss, we as humans have a tendency to think from our heads — and frequently, too much! But when we do that, we throw ourselves out of alignment, making it impossible to really access our self confidence and make the right choices. This card comes up to remind us to break the cycle of overthinking. Get out of your head and into…
As the moon moves out of Capricorn and into Aquarius, we are greeted with the rewards for our efforts. Taste the fruits of your labors! It’s time to descend out of our headspace and down into a real world, this fantastic world that you have created! Grab your new beginning by the horns — you’ve earned it!
When I finished the reading, I closed up shop and thanked Lakshmi for her assistance. With divine timing, my wind chimes blew, which sounded like a bell. Traditionally, bells are used to ward off bad spirits, so it felt a little like she was giving us extra protection in her absence. Then, when I looked down at the floor just below the altar, I found one of my angels had dropped a feather on their way out! Wicked cool.
Overall, I have a good feeling about this week. Let me know in the comments how it affects you and if this reading rings true! And check back next Sunday for another installment of Tarot To-Go on Oddball Era.
