Years ago, probably back in high school, I began making a playlist for my mom full of her favorite songs. She didn’t know about this, but I made note of the songs she said she loved, which made it a bit of a long process for me to put this list together. I never quite finished it, and to be honest, I was working off of memory when I made this specific playlist today. I have the original list written somewhere at my parent’s house which I plan on searching for, but I’m secretly hoping I included all the songs from that list.

Music For The Future

Two weeks ago, my friend put on a charity event/fundraiser to help raise money for music education. He worked with an organization called Little Kids Rock, who help give teachers the tools and knowledge to incorporate music into their classes. It feels super appropriate to team up with an organization like this these days since our music and arts are being stepped on and discarded by the top guys.

The idea originated at the beginning of the year, and I offered to help in any way I could to make sure this event was successful and went smoothly. The first thing I offered to do was to put together the event flyer (see above πŸ‘†). I was asked to keep it simple and fun. I hand wrote the type, and kept everything else basic. I then was asked to help plan and organize a Chinese auction. The auction ended up being a bust which felt discouraging, but in the end, we realized that an auction would have only been a distraction since the main part of the event consisted of the music performances.

Pop Words // Lies

01. The past few months, my coworker has had an 80’s station playing on Pandora, and Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac plays every day. I won’t complain because it’s a great song, but it definitely made me appreciate their other vocalist, Christine McVie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Stevie Nicks and I want to hear her sing everything all the time, but it’s hard to imagine Stevie singing lead on this track. I love bands that share vocal duties, which is what makes Fleetwood Mac such a classic.

This Is Jamaica, Queens

Back in December, I was commissioned to do artwork for a local magazine called Edible Queens for their Winter 2017 issue.

My artwork was featured on this piece called “This Is My Queens” which was written about Melinda Katz. She’s currently the Queens Borough President, and is working hard to fix up Jamaica, Queens. She grew up in Jamaica and knows of the potential it has to become a great neighborhood. The piece was written about her experience and thoughts about Jamaica.

All Is Full Of Love Notes

As I’m sure I’ve shared before, everywhere I turn, there’s some form of wall art or graffiti that’s so photogenic. That’s one thing I love about this city. Lately it feels as if I’ve been coming along large mural-like pieces or truck graffiti. More so the truck graffiti but I rarely am able to snap a picture because they’re always driving by. Only when they’re parked.

Cool Links Via The Internet

The Internet is full of so much greatness. I come across so many great links and videos that I don’t know what to do with – the type you just need to share. So here’s a small list of links and videos I recommend.

01. Saddest Calendar on the Internet: A Daily Tracker of Trump’s Damage – Pretty much self explanatory. This calendar keeps you up to date with the daily actions Trump has been making, which is frustrating but informative. It’s the kind of news we need to keep up with so we know what we’re fighting for. Everyday there seems to be something new we need to fight for. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get exhausted.

02. This Guy Turns OCD Hoarding Into Amazing Photos – Photographer Jim Golden photographs objects into collections in such an organized fashion. I love flat lays that are so organized amazingly like this. I appreciate how he groups similar items together. It’s just so fun…and so damn well organized.

The 90s was a great era for music. Emerging genres, movements, new voices, etc. It will always be my favorite music period. That’s for sure.

One of my favorite underground genres was trip hop. Never heard of it? I don’t blame ya, not many people have. Think of the House theme song. Massive Attack is a major contributor to trip hop.

Throwback Jean Jacket

A few years ago, I remember attempting to submit a DIY project to this magazine. Can’t even remember which magazine it was, but it never got accepted. Along with passing due to my bad photography skills, I’m sure they also got loads of submissions. But I thought it didn’t hurt trying anyway. I try to remind myself what’s the worst that could happen? You shouldn’t hold yourself back just because you think you won’t get what you’re after. So I did what I could and submitted anyway.

Well, every so often I come across the folder on my computer with the pictures I took and I figured I’d share a throwback. Besides, it’s jean jacket weather and I’ve been wearing my jean jacket for a couple of weeks now, so this was a DIY that was worth it.

I remember buying this jacket with the intention of sewing something on the back. Just like usual, I gathered a bunch of material and winged it. I let the fabric guide me. 😜

This To That // Round Wallet Paint Job

I’m all about little fix ups here and there when I can find opportunities. Especially with fabric paint. I really swear by this stuff. I’ve used it on clothes, shoes, jackets, wallets, and even surfaces that aren’t fabric. The paint lasts long, and the squirt bottle is so useful if you want to use paint right out of the bottle. The only time this paint let me down was on velvet/velour fabric. It makes sense because velvet has a raised fuzzy texture that causes the paint to crack. But besides that, I’m obsessed with fabric paint.

So with that said, I bought this round wallet a few months ago. I’ve been into round bags and such lately; they’re so visually appealing. I didn’t like the decoration on this wallet though. I wanted to put a patch on it but in the end, I couldn’t commit to a patch. I thought if I painted my usual squiggles and whatever, it would still look nice.

Ladykiller Haikus

I’ve binged so much on murder podcasts this year that I needed to take a break to gather my thoughts. But that doesn’t mean my obsession of true crime is dying. It’s just on hold for now.

While I’ve been gathering my thoughts and checking my brain to see if I retained the stories I’ve listened to, I decided to have fun and make some haikus. Because why not. Haikus really test you to see if you can tell a story in three lines.

So I’ll give it a shot:

If you want relief
From sexual frustration,
Don’t go to Aileen.
