Be Your Own Goddess

I know I haven’t had much of an internet presence lately. I’ve been laying low taking on personal projects or attempting some new illustrations to submit to indie magazines.

One magazine I recently submitted to ended up passing on my art because they received way too many submissions and I didn’t make the final cut. I want to be slightly bitter, but they made such an effort to write me the nicest email apologizing and how to not give up. It’s always disappointing to get rejected after working hard on a project for a specific client, but it was an open submission call, so I can’t be upset. These things happen a lot I’m sure. I’m lucky to have gotten back an email at all. A large portion of the time, if clients consider not using our art, you won’t hear back. It’s happened before. I’ve been ghosted and it’s an awful feeling.

A Truly Saucy Entertainment List

Lately, tv has been consuming a lot of my time. I feel like everyone who knows me, knows that I’m cool with that. This time around for this list, I’ve got new music and tv series to add to this list. Very reflective of my life these days.

TV/MOVIES

Sweet/Vicious
Being an original MTV series, I was a little skeptical that this would be a good show, but it covers the tough subject of rape on the college campus and vigilante justice – something that isn’t talked about on tv. Well, maybe the occasional Law & Order episode, but that’s pretty much it. I decided to give this show a watch and I ended up binge watching the entire series in one day. Oops! It was pretty great; I got really into the double lives the main characters were playing, but unfortunately, it didn’t make it past one season. The internet is frustrated about MTV’s decision so hopefully some other platform will give the series a chance. Anyone…? Netflix…?

Hanging Rag Tassels

After being absent for a month, I’m feeling confident coming back with some new projects, words, and pop culture sharing.

I’ve been quite into the “rag” projects lately. There’s nothing like using fabric you don’t have a use for. This rag rug is a good project to make a dent, especially when you make multiple. I made another one for a friend and I may potentially make an area rug size for another friend. It feels good making space in your fabric scrap drawers.

Business Card Pouch

After work lately, I’ve been using my time attending networking events and taking the freelance thing more seriously. I’m still kinda questioning my career path and the kind of life I want to work towards. Freelance seems like a possible future I may want and I’m lucky to have a steady income while having the allowance to work on stuff on the side. This is the time to do it, when you’re not under pressure to make an income.

Since I’m taking my freelance more seriously, I designed and ordered new business cards. I got square cards from MOO, which always come great. Since I don’t think I want to quite carry around the MOO box the cards come in, I wanted to make a pouch for my business cards.

Tubular Pillow

Two weeks ago, my parents popped over for a visit. My dad, before they left, told me he wanted a thin long pillow for his neck. I’ve made him one before, but my younger brother took it and claimed it as his. Since then, all the men in my family praised how much they loved the thin tube pillow for their necks. Maybe it’s a guy thing, I don’t know. But my dad wanted another one.

Pillows are a fast fix for me, so it wasn’t a problem.

Rag Rug DIY

I have a lot of fabric scraps and not enough projects to use them for. While Googling some random craft projects, this rag rug project popped out at me and I thought to make a small one for myself. ~ Anything to use these fabric scraps ~ I looked up ways to make this rug and I came to realize it wasn’t so hard. Like it was actually pretty super easy. Just time consuming, that’s all.

I bought a decently big size non-slip rug mat, the kind that you put under rugs to prevent slipping. Because of the small squares, it makes for a good base to tie fabric strips through each square, or every other square. Since it was big, I cut it to the size that I wanted. It came out to a random size – about 22 inches X 17 inches.

Life In The Fast Lane

This year has been encouraging in the way of following through with goals and being active to change for the better. Change is good, especially when you have nothing to lose and so much to gain.

One big goal I gave myself this year was to work out. I know, that’s everyone’s resolution every year – to get fit. But I was set on making it happen at some point. I’m just not a gym person; I can’t just ~go~ to the gym. I figured my kind of workout is in class form. So I signed up for kickboxing. It sure has been kicking my ass though. Bruises, soreness, etc. everything. So far I’ve done 6 classes – two a week, and I hope to keep consistent. My initial goal this year was to specifically sign up for dance classes, especially hip hop, but I figured there’s nothing wrong with doing both, right? I’ll get to that eventually as a side fun workout class. For now I’m trying to keep a consistent schedule with my kickboxing since I gave into a membership.

Planning a well thought out curated playlist can feel like a workout. I enjoy making them, but sometimes it takes months and I get anxious to share them. I linger on songs, and really work around the mood and feelings of songs. Everybody has their method of making playlists, and that’s mine. I’m like a mood ring, but for music?
