One style that I’ve come across in Greece that everyone loves is patch work. Bags, clothing, couches – you name it, they love it.
My aunt owns a textile shop and she has tons of binders with sample fabrics that have no use. She gave me some binders and her permission to do anything I wanted with them.

This is what the ultimate me type looks like. When I doodle the alphabet in sketchbooks, it always looks somewhat like this. So I decided to officially draw out the alphabet in Illustrator, and so therefore it’s official. This is Maria’s Funky Monkey Type.

I have a love/hate relationship with summer. I love being able to wear lighter clothing – t-shirts, my athletic shorts I find oh so comfortable, and my fun light-weight oxfords. I appreciate lack of snow, and sunny comfortable days to walk around and enjoy myself.

I’m not very good at vacationing. I need to constantly be doing something or else I get restless. Since this is an intended extended vacation, I came prepared with a sketchbook and colored pencils, but I miss jumping between projects. You may ask how do I finish projects if I jump around so much? Well, I don’t; I have a slight case of crafty ADD, and a huge chunk of unfinished projects.

With the afflicted government and financial situation here in Greece, I’ve noticed that the city of Athens has become a hotspot for all things murals and graffiti. When I was down in New Orleans two months ago, I was loving all the graffiti I had seen everywhere, but Athens is a whole other story; this city takes the cake. People are frustrated with the economic state of the country, and they take it out on the walls of all the buildings here for everyone to see. It’s a sad situation, but it’s a fascinatingly visual treat.

One thing about this time difference that bothers me is that I was anxiously waiting yesterday for Pitchfork to post their latest episode of Pitchfork Classic which was about Slowdive’s Souvlaki album. Being seven hours ahead, I unfortunately was asleep when it was posted, so just know this post was intended for yesterday.

Shower time is my personal thinking time. I’ve become a pro at questioning the most random of the random while I’m scrubbing my hair, as I’m sure it is a good thinking time for other people as well.
So here are some random thoughts I’ve had while being here in Greece. Only have been here a full week and I’ve had a lot on my mind already questioning the differences between Europe and America.

I have landed in Athens. Been here for a little less than a week. Still adjusting to the time change, have obtained wifi, figured out adapters and convertors that work with my electronics, and I’m slowly making my rounds to visit family.
Everything is fine and dandy now, but I can’t even tell you the hell I went through to get here. All I kept hearing from everyone was “Mercury must be in retrograde“. After I have arrived, I Googled it, and yes yes, Mercury is indeed in retrograde. I don’t know much about astrology, but whenever a situation occurs in which the alignments of the stars and planets affect my everyday day life, I do my research. I read that Mercury affects travel (along with other things), and my travel was affected for sure.

You know, I strongly believe that Alanis Morissette does not get the credit she deserves. She’s got an identifiable killer voice and knows how to create amazing and memorable songs. And I feel people don’t appreciate her like they should. She plays an important role in music today. She also took on the role as God in the movie Dogma. So basically, Alanis is God.
