The Best Of The Reunited

Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland Fan Art

The past five years have been a big deal for older bands reuniting, and I’ve been lucky to have attended quite a number of shows I would have never imagined would happen. As a music lover, and especially a lover of the 90’s, it’s been an exciting bunch of years for my beloved 90’s bands resurrecting.

Here are some bands I’ve had the pleasure of seeing.

Artistic Aesthetic

Sign language art

So I believe everyone has a right to their own opinion on art. Duh. Everyone has a different aesthetic that attracts them. Not everyone enjoys the same art. I can say this many different ways and they will always be true obvious statements.

Color Study // Pretty In Athens Pink

For months now, I’ve been obsessing over houses – the combination of the structures and colors. I’m starting to think that my future home is going to be real wild. It’s going to consist of color blocks. I’m really loving color blocks.

I’ve been especially obsessing over pink houses. The construction of Greek houses and apartments are much different than what you’d see in America. Seeing them painted pink makes them even more interesting. A lot of the apartment buildings here are either an orangey-peach or peachy-pink. They’re all very peachy.

The Respectful Name Game

About two weeks ago I was walking down a busy street full of shops and restaurants, and I passed a group of young folk whom were singing Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel. Aside from humming it for days since it was stuck in my head, I went on a kick collecting songs featuring names. In this first batch I collected some of my favorite songs featuring prefixes and I would like to share them with you!

Day Trip To A Certain ‘Shmarkopoulo’

I took a trip yesterday with my uncle and the baby to visit his parents. They don’t live too far away – they’re still in Athens. Like, “suburban” Athens. Suburbia in Greece is so much different than what you would imagine. Not even close to the cookie-cutter image you may be thinking of.
But anyway, I haven’t been to that house in eleven years.

From Athens With Love Notes

Graffiti in Athens, Greece

I’ve been bouncing around between family member’s homes, so I apologize for the lack of posts. This week I’ve been staying with my uncle and his family. They have an 8 month year old son, so I’m sure you could imagine how our days have been. Hectic and occupied, if you really can’t imagine. Aside from that, the weather is working its way to an unbearable scorching level – and to think we’re not even near mid-summer.

Since my last Love Notes post, I’ve been coming across a whole lot of interesting graffiti that I’ve been photographing, so I have quite a bit to share in the few batches of Love Notes posts.

Characteristics Of Greece

I’m slowly figuring out the main characteristics that make this country strong in every way that is not financial, hah. Because their financial state is so weak, they successfully make up for it everywhere else.

Being anywhere long enough, you can spot the daily customs that make up a specific place. When you hear about Greece, most of these characteristics are brought up quite a bit, and they’re spoken about so much because they’re true.
Here’s some validation featuring photos.

Paper Cutouts

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve getting into paper crafts more because of the limited crafty supplies and projects I have here.

We’ve come across rolls and rolls of tracing paper. So I thought to draw figures/people and create shapes on the people to create color blocks on said tracing paper.

Protest In Athens

Protest In Athens, Greece

I’m not political, in fact I don’t know much happening in the world of politics in general. I’m completely clueless. But with the craziness happening in Greece right now, I can’t help but talk about it.

Five Features From The Spice Girls Front

Spice Girls Gif

You know, I really feel kids today are so unfortunate for missing out on the Spice Girls scene.
Not too long ago I was out and about at a certain dinner event with friends. The majority of the crowd ranged from 15-19 years olds, and then there was the small group of us that were over age 24. A whole lot of songs from today’s mainstream were performed which all the young girls were loving. As the show was finishing up, the last song played was Spice Girls’ number one hit. I’ve never seen such a quiet crowd; Wannabe always gets the crowd going no matter where you are, but not here. The young girls were not amused, or maybe they just had no idea what song this was and it made me feel old and sad. (I imagine older generations feel the same way about their beloved songs.)
