Colorful Handmade Photo Albums

While on the topic of developing photos that I meant to develop a while ago, I’ve had this idea of using my bookbinding skills by making fun little photo albums.
I’m still old school in the way that I like physical copies of all kinds of things, and photography is included. I always forget about much I appreciate film. I don’t consider myself a photographer, but there’s something about the surprise when you get photos developed because it’s not instant and controllable like digital cameras.

I could talk about it all day, so I digress. This past weekend, I figured I’d finally get a start on my handmade binded photo albums. During my last semester of college, I had taken a bookbinding class and we learned a specific binding method that I thought would be perfect for photos. I wrote up a post about the project two years ago on my old blog.

Portland Through Fish Eyes

While I’ve been absent, I’ve accomplished a little goal I’ve been meaning to do for a while – getting film developed.
About two years ago during my final semester in college, a group of my classmates and I were talking about taking a trip for our last spring break ever. I had been talking about Portland so much that we all agreed to make that our destination. I brought film with me, and I bought some disposable cameras while we were there. I developed all my disposables since then, but there was still quite a bit of film I didn’t develop immediately which was some 110 film.

I’m Ditching My Razor

With it still feeling like a new year, it’s nice to have that feeling of starting fresh. It’s a good excuse to finally start doing something you’ve been meaning to do for a long time. I don’t really have any big resolutions this year but I have tiny ones that I want to start and follow through with.
I’ve sorta been breaking them into categories, such as health, appearance, hobbies, social, etc. One example is that I want to make a vow to never use a razor again. I guess this resolution would fit under appearance?

Soap Dish Making

It’s been tiring for me to think about blogging lately. And it’s been a no go for me to even find energy to think about doing any kind of crafting. I’ve fallen somewhat out of the zone. But I’m fighting the urge to be lazy (it’s been a tough battle!).

I’ve had a lot on my mind lately – goal making and apartment hunting are the big ones currently. I’ve been trying to work on improving some furniture and finishing up some projects for a future apartment I may move into hopefully soon. A lot of those workings were minor and I didn’t think they were blogging worthy.

My iPod Chronicles & Frustrations

So I confess, I’m still head over heels for my 160 GB iPod classic. As technology is moving forward with gadgets that are made for unlimited streaming and storage, I just can’t seem move forward and keep up. I honestly don’t care to. I don’t want my music in the same space as my phone. They have two different purposes for me and I have no interest in combining them. Anyone else feel the same way?

David Bowie Tribute

David Bowie

It’s been a week since David Bowie passed, and guess what – it won’t stop sucking. It’s unfortunate and disappointing to lose a legend like him, but the legacy he left behind is great and wonderful, and he’s touched and influenced so many people. It’s pretty amazing that one can leave behind what he left behind, and that makes for such an extraordinary life. David Bowie will forever be remembered that way.

I compiled a tiny list of pretty wonderful David Bowie cover songs. My top five. I’m sure there are so many more great ones out there, so feel free to share!

Shop Update

(A few of my favorite bags, which you can find in my shop!)

I find myself living a double life these days. By day, I’m a full time designer at a shoe company. By night, I’m a weaving rookie trying to find time to fit in crafty projects while relaxing and not feeling guilty about taking it easy every so often.
I’ve been trying to treat this year differently than last year. I have clearer set goals, more motivation than I’ve felt in a while, and I’ve been non stop during any spare time I’ve got. Fun fact: I fell asleep just before 10pm last night because I just couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Hey, 2016!

2015 was a wild year. Full of a decent amount of ups and plenty of downs. Haven’t concluded if they equalized, but it was definitely a roller coaster ride.

I began my year moving back from my “dream city” of Portland after living there for only four months. The year started off on of bad note because it became a kind of reminder that things didn’t work out so I had to take a few steps back and undo what I did. Not exactly what I wanted, but it had to be done. With that said, I was excited to start all over again back home, but things didn’t exactly work in my favor back home either. At least not right away. Things began to turn around for me towards the end of the year, which is why I feel positive 2016 will turn out great.

Confessions Of A Former Metal Head

(Kylesa – a band I love so dearly played the night we were in Nashville during our road trip, but I was embarrassed to tell my friends how badly I wanted to go to the show.)

Whenever I get into music discussions with friends or people I meet for the first time, I’m always embarrassed to bring up the genre that really got me to where I am today. I always question why I’m ashamed because I shouldn’t be. For years I never spoke of it, but lately I find myself talking about it more because I just don’t care anymore. I used to be a hardcore metal head when I was younger, and I’m proud of it!

Trimmings And Lace

I’ve never been a fan of fringe, trimmings, or too much extra embellishments. The occasional studs, sure. And sometimes chains to make things more “edgy”, but fringe was always a no go for me.

Working on these tote bags kinda changed my views on certain things. For one, I’m really loving the “bohemian” look. I think I kinda always did, but the fact that the term “gypsy” is associated with it makes me uncomfortable, especially since it’s an ethnic slur and I don’t like going there – that whole “cultural appropriation” land. I think a good substitute for that term is “bohemian/boho“, so we’ll stick to that. I’ve been digging that look lately – the colors, embellishments, fabric combinations, etc. I’ve been accepting the fringe at the bottom of my bags. I’m totally feeling it. And I’ve never noticed how many color variations there can be, and even if you use the same exact colors and fabrics, it will always end up being executed differently in rag weaves.
