Stitching Type

I got this idea from another project I’ve done, and decided to customize completely – a distressed sort of type made by sewing through paper.

I drew out the alphabet using a fun ‘handwritten’ type of style. Colored it with Sharpie and grabbed my thread and needle. Sewing through paper is trickier than fabric because paper is a wee bit on the delicate side. It’s too easy to pull the thread hard enough to tear the paper, but if you be careful, the final product is worth it.

If you want to try this out, I suggest you scan it in and use Photoshop to edit. To accomplish a strong black and white contrast, use the ‘Threshold’ filter. I recommend you make a duplicate layer of the alphabet before using the ‘Threshold’. The sharp contrast personally is too strong for me, so I use the blending modes for the duplicate layer. ‘Soft light’ is my usual go to.
You of course can edit this any way you’d like.

I’ve been on MS MR kick lately, so I took a quote from their song Fantasy with the type I made and just had fun with colors and blending modes. (See image at the top of this post ⤴.)

You should give this project a go if you’re down for it. It’s fun, and you can reuse it for future fun projects. It’s a nice change compared to the typical fonts you find all over the ‘net. 👍
