Some Witchy Movies

I know Halloween is now over, but we all still have a little bit of that spooky spirit leftover, right? Or is it just me? Holidays come and go so quick, but the spirit tends to linger for a few days after they’re gone. It’s a little hard to get over Halloween so quickly.

Well, while there’s still some of that spirit left, I put together another list of my top witch movies to share with y’all that are entertaining and not that scary. That is if you’re still into the spirit.

01. Practical Magic [1998]
A light hearted love tale featuring amazing top names we all know and love. There’s no element of scary in this, but it’s all about casting spells and learning to deal with the family curse when it comes to love. It’s a deep love story. Love and witches. Seems to be a typical witch movie.

02. Hocus Pocus [1993]
The top classic witch movie we all know and love, Hocus Pocus features a plot, fashion, set, and overall mood that will never be dated. Something about this movie is so fascinating that it has stuck with viewers since the day it came out, and it’s having a renaissance in the more recent years. This is the classic Halloween movie when people think of witches. Bam.

03. Bewitched [2005]
I can’t think of another person to pull off the character of Samantha better than Nicole Kidman. This fun, charming remake followed a bit of a different and interesting storyline – which probably wouldn’t really be considered a remake in that case. But it was a storyline that connected to the original series, and had a different take on how a witch plays a witch without anyone knowing she’s a witch. Just watch it and you’ll understand it.

04. Witches Of Eastwick [1987]
Oi vey, where to even start with this one? It features Jack Nicholson being a creep and Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeifer experiment with magic to make him go away. There are some more creepy moments, and you’re rooting for the three leading ladies, not Jack Nicholson. Because he’s a creep. It’s for sure wicked, and smothered with dark humor, and creepy Jack Nicholson if you’re into that.

05. Double, Double Toil And Trouble [1993]
The Olson sisters seemed to cover many topics and themes in their movies and tv series, so it’s no surprise they made a Halloween movie like this. The movie starts off real cheesy, but once you’re immersed into the plot, you don’t even think about the cheesy factor anymore. The story has its spooky moments as their Aunt Agatha is a super witch bitch and the twins come and save the day. Girl power!

06. Teen Witch [1989]
Talk about cheesy, the cheese factor is on full blast here. The music, outfits and the main character Louise are silly. She basically learns she develops powers when she turns sixteen and takes guidance from another witch. That witch is played by the same the same medium in Poltergeist and I can’t move on from that because she gave me nightmares when I was a child. Besides that, this movie is a good time.

07. Sabrina [1996]
Did you guys know it was a movie before it was a tv series? Did you know it was originally an Archie comic? I didn’t know either of those facts and it blew my mind. I tried to undo the fact that it was a tv series before watching this so I could have a fresh perspective. I’m used to the actors that play in the series which made the movie a little hard to get into (as I’m sure a lot of people felt the same way). But they grow on you. I promise. I’m gonna be honest, this movie reminds me a whole lot of Teen Witch, but 90’s version.

08. The Witches [1990]
This movie may come off as a children’s movie, but watch it again. It’s actually kinda scary as hell. The idea of targeting innocent children, chased by terrifying witches whom conceal their real identities…oh man. Those Jim Henson puppets are intense, and Anjelica Huston is a classy beaut even though she’s the worst witch of them all.

09. I Married A Witch [1942]
Black & white, Veronica Lake, and a fantasy witchy story: that’s what this movie is about. Honestly, I can’t tell if I like this movie or not as it’s frustrating to see a witch take advantage of her power the way she did in this movie, but maybe this is another form of girl power?

10. Casper Meets Wendy [1998]
Oh Hillary Duff, where art thou? Well, the internet keeps us well updated and informed. But any who, here’s a good tale of trusting the unexpected. Ghosts and witches team up to defeat the bad guys. And of all ghosts, it’s our friendly ghost. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’m on the quest to find more fun witch movies, and have been eyeing some international ones, so I may expand this list someday. Maybe make a scary witch list too. Oh how I love lists.
