Paper Mâché With Cookie Cutters

Paper Mache With Cookie Cutters

You can call me a bit of a collector (the kinder word for hoarder). I “collect” things that can be used for art projects. One thing I will rarely throw out is paper. I have like three large drawers in my desk dedicated to scrap paper.

I started up a new hobby about a year ago involving paper mâché, and having so much paper is perfect for this hobby. I like making paper mâché canvases, like little baby canvases. I usually shape them by hand but this time around I used a cookie cutter to shape them and they’re adorbz.

The process is super easy, just time consuming. Can I share?

I use an old school blender. Fill it 1/3 with water, and put in enough shredded paper to balance the amount of water. I pour the blended paper into a tubberware container, and repeat the process until my container is plenty filled.

I set up a neat workspace. And a towel. A towel is so needed. Then I just start packing pulp into the mold. I don’t fill up the entire height of the mold. Maybe halfway?

Before picking up the mold, I try to press down with a towel to pick up as much excess water as I can. It makes it easier to pick up the mold and to move the packed pulp piece (alliteration intended).

Little baby t-shirt canvases. They’re presh, and I can’t wait till they’re all dried up to use. I have so many ideas.

P.S. I gotta start using gifs more, they’re fun!
