(A cool mural that was not too far from where we stayed.)
It’s wild to think about all the traveling we took part in within the week we had our rental car.
The four days we were in North Carolina, we stayed in the Outer Banks, and took a few trips around town to see what the Outer Banks had to offer. The majority of the time, we found ourselves chasing the sunset and looking out for awesome nature spots. It was a very picturesque area.
We visited the Bodie Island Lighthouse. We walked up the 10 story lighthouse which was brutal since you can only get to the top by walking up the steps, obviously. But the view from the top made the heavy breathing and exhaustion worth it. Right around the corner was a nature walkway which had a pretty nice view of the water and lighthouse from the distance. It was a cool spot to visit, with an unsettling but interesting history if you’re curious to look it up.
The same day, we hopped over to the sand dunes at Jockey’s Ridge State Park to watch the sun set. I’ve never seen sand dunes in person and it was crazy to climb over the first sand hill to see a whole lot of people waiting there to see the sun set as well. Glad to see we were all on the same page. The sunset was amazing.
Lastly, on our final day in the Outer Banks, we took a trip to a beach an hour away to spot some wild horses. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the wild horses, but we passed some sort of festival which as pretty hoppin’. We caught another sunset and took loads of pictures.
We didn’t attend the festival as it was our last night to clean and pack before we hit the road. We went out west one state over, which I’ll share about tomorrow. The trip got better and better every day, and it was a super memorable road trip! We had just gotten home yesterday, and let me say, with all of that driving that was done, it will take the rest of the week to get back into a healthy sleep and eating routine. Slowly but surely!
