Years ago, probably back in high school, I began making a playlist for my mom full of her favorite songs. She didn’t know about this, but I made note of the songs she said she loved, which made it a bit of a long process for me to put this list together. I never quite finished it, and to be honest, I was working off of memory when I made this specific playlist today. I have the original list written somewhere at my parent’s house which I plan on searching for, but I’m secretly hoping I included all the songs from that list.
A lot of these songs were from when I was a child. My mom played records by Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, and Jon Secada. I have quite a number of memories from my childhood listening to their songs in the car or at home while I played with my toys. I have one distinct memory of listening to this Bryan Adams song and running around the kitchen with my brother every time the chorus came around. We took this song very literally.
My mom was very much into American music during the 90’s, but after that, she got super in touch with her Greek roots and pretty much only listening to Greek jams.
I had the intention of putting this playlist together and burning these tracks onto a CD (old school, I know!). I want to give my mom a CD full of her favorite songs she used to listen to in her car wherever and whenever she’s driving and wants to jam out. That’s my gift to her this Mother’s Day.
