Love Trumps Hate

The response from our fellow peers about the decision of whom was elected is pretty exciting. People are still protesting across the U.S. which is great to see, and it’s being recognized which is what we need. It shows that we will not stand up for bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, and racism.

That being said, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

I was raised by two immigrant parents. They are now American citizens, and I know not everyone living here has the chance to call themselves an American citizen. Growing up with two languages spoken in my home, I understand the importance to blend into America while holding onto the culture and traditions of your motherland. I may have the privilege of being white, but I understand how it is having a foreign family while living in a bilingual home.

For that reason, I won’t fight against immigrants, I will fight for them as well as everything else we need to fight for to keep this country an accepting nation with booming cultures and traditions. We as Americans need that while embracing our own cultures and traditions that make us American. New flash: yes we can really have both here. We just need to accept the fact that this whole country is a melting pot and has been since the day we moved to this land. I find it heartbreaking to see racism and sexism so quickly outspoken without thinking of the things being said. People are becoming open to saying hurtful and offensive things because our future leader is embracing that sort of hatred. Soon, constant crude language and assault will be a part of our daily lives because people use the excuse “if our president can, so can we”. He sets the example for the country and children growing up will see this as normalcy in their neighborhoods and schools. And that is completely unacceptable.

Here’s the thing. America was never great. It was riddled with death and despair, and many innocent people suffered throughout history because of ignorance. Only rich white men ruled, and is that what America is trying to bring back – the ruling of rich white men? Since “founding” aka stumbling across this land, I’d like to think we’ve been moving forward making history everyday. With this election, people basically spoke up by saying they’re okay to take one giant step back, because that’s what’s going to happen. Revoking and repealing will be the theme of the next four years.

I think what we need to do is to fight and make America great and drop the “again” because there never was a great moment that united us all in history. If you’ve noticed, America only unites after tragedy. After this travesty of the election, and whatever else is to come, maybe we’ll all find a way to come together and we will unite to make this country great for the first time.

As much as I wanna joke about moving to Canada, I want to be here to fight the good fight. I’m here for you, America. Get ready for a revolution. This country won’t be the ever be the same. And maybe we can tell our grandchildren the stories of how we had to fight to make their country the America we all currently envision.

Keep up with the current events of every day folk struggling within the first week of the president elect. http://ithasbegun2016.tumblr.com & whywereafraid.com is devastating to read.
