Surfing The Music Wave ~~~

Surf Rock

Making mini music lists is becoming a thing I’ve been enjoying. Picking a topic and rolling with it via Youtube, BAM. Mini music list.

Any of y’all fans of surf rock? It originated in the 60’s influenced by the surf culture under the California sun. It’s a sound that I thoroughly enjoy – that electric guitar and reverb gets me. I adore it.

Current Style Inspirations

I’m not fashion obsessive, and I never know what’s trending. I’m pretty oblivious to what’s going on in the fashion world. I honestly still wear clothes that I bought ten+ years ago. With that said, I do check out some fashion blogs time to time.

Maybe talking about style as opposed to fashion is the better term to use. I don’t think I have a specific style, and I don’t think a specific style attracts me. I pick and choose what I like which inspires me to make and customize everything I own or want to own. As long as it’s fun and comfortable, I’m happy.

The Respectful Name Game

About two weeks ago I was walking down a busy street full of shops and restaurants, and I passed a group of young folk whom were singing Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel. Aside from humming it for days since it was stuck in my head, I went on a kick collecting songs featuring names. In this first batch I collected some of my favorite songs featuring prefixes and I would like to share them with you!

Five Features From The Spice Girls Front

Spice Girls Gif

You know, I really feel kids today are so unfortunate for missing out on the Spice Girls scene.
Not too long ago I was out and about at a certain dinner event with friends. The majority of the crowd ranged from 15-19 years olds, and then there was the small group of us that were over age 24. A whole lot of songs from today’s mainstream were performed which all the young girls were loving. As the show was finishing up, the last song played was Spice Girls’ number one hit. I’ve never seen such a quiet crowd; Wannabe always gets the crowd going no matter where you are, but not here. The young girls were not amused, or maybe they just had no idea what song this was and it made me feel old and sad. (I imagine older generations feel the same way about their beloved songs.)

May-keover Media // 003

Round three, my last “makeover” for the month of May, comparing and throwing in my thoughts of some movies and songs that were remade. You can check round one and two to see what other media I’ve spoken of, and I recommend you watch some if anything sparks any interest!

Why Is Alanis Morissette So Good At Covering Songs?

Alanis Morissette Fan Art

You know, I strongly believe that Alanis Morissette does not get the credit she deserves. She’s got an identifiable killer voice and knows how to create amazing and memorable songs. And I feel people don’t appreciate her like they should. She plays an important role in music today. She also took on the role as God in the movie Dogma. So basically, Alanis is God.

Movies For The Lost And Confused

Lost In Translation Fan Art

The past few weeks have been rough for me since finishing up night classes. I guess I’m just anxious for my extended vacation coming up in two weeks. Time has never moved so slow, and it’s been rough trying to fill my days with activities. It’s hard for me to get bored, like, difficult, but I’m really craving change (I’m trying really hard not to take it out on my hair) and this waiting game has gotten me a bit down. Like other human beings, I develop bad habits during moments where I feel down and I’m probably not doing myself or anyone else any favors by feeding depressing things, but since this is appropriate to my life right now, I’m going to feed into it anyway.

May-keover Media // 001

Lolita Fan Art

So this idea came about when I was on my vacation down south with friends having a conversation about movie remakes. It was an interesting topic in which they encouraged me to write a handful of posts during the month of May, hence the “may-keover”. It’s definitely quite a process for me to do all this “research”, but I’ll take any excuse to watch movies and listen to music.
Round one I have three movies and three songs to compare and contrast!

Five Ways Broad City is Changing the Media for Us Broads

Guest post written by Victoria

Broad City Art

I hated Broad City the first time I watched it. It seemed like nothing more than televising a web series made by Upright Citizens Brigade alums Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. It also seemed like Comedy Central’s answer to HBO’s Girls and I’ll bet a whole lot of ladies felt the same way. But with their time slot right after the frequently over-the-top Workaholics, another CC original and personal favorite of mine, I ended up giving the broads a shot for an entire season and realized my original assessment was not only completely unfounded but wrong; Broad City is actually the greatest show ever, pretty much, and here’s five reasons why they’re going to change media for women.
