While on the topic of developing photos that I meant to develop a while ago, I’ve had this idea of using my bookbinding skills by making fun little photo albums.
I’m still old school in the way that I like physical copies of all kinds of things, and photography is included. I always forget about much I appreciate film. I don’t consider myself a photographer, but there’s something about the surprise when you get photos developed because it’s not instant and controllable like digital cameras.
I could talk about it all day, so I digress. This past weekend, I figured I’d finally get a start on my handmade binded photo albums. During my last semester of college, I had taken a bookbinding class and we learned a specific binding method that I thought would be perfect for photos. I wrote up a post about the project two years ago on my old blog.
I used that bookbinding method and put together two books with my developed fish eye photos.
I measured everything, sliced and diced everything that needed slicing, and decoupaged and finger painted the covers.
This specific binding has a super long cover that wraps around the booklet, so there was quite a bit of surface area that needed decorating.
After the decorating, I marked each page and cut slits on opposite corners to insert my photos into each page. The other corners, I used washi tape to make sure the photos were reinforced.
Other than these fish eye photos, I have quite a number of other photos that I plan on making photo albums for. Maybe when I get around to working on those I’ll try to remember to share the how-to and post a tutorial of sorts. Currently, it’s my favorite binding and I’m all for sharing, because it’s caring.
But if you wanna know the truth, the finger painting part was my favorite. 😝
