For a while now, I’ve been wanting to get into incense burning. Something about crafting a mindful, creative, and spiritual space is something I‘ve been craving. Especially now, during this time of quarantine and distancing.
Which is when I created myself some cute incense holders – during this time of quarantine.
I got the idea when I was visiting my brother about a month ago. I went to San Francisco and kept an eye out for some cute incense holders but I couldn’t seem to find anything of the size and style I wanted for my space.
Since this is my fifth visit to him, we’ve done all the touristy things, so we decided to have crafty nights while bonding. We found some Sculpey, and I bought a round cookie cutter.
I cut out three flat pieces and created a flat edge around with a curve going up in the middle – sorta like a baby volcano. I used an incense stick to poke a hole in the middle. I’m a perfectionist, but I decided to be nice to myself and not drive myself crazy making these perfect. They’re supposed to be fun.
I baked the pieces at his house and didn’t touch them for a month after coming home. This self quarantine had me examine unfinished projects in my “to do” pile, and I thought “let’s get these suckers painted”.
I painted a white coat first. For the citrus colors, I decided to use nail polish. It’s glossy, I have the colors I need, and it dries quick. Perf! I then revisited my white paint and drew little dashes up and down to show action in the pulp.
I did pull up some photos for reference and reassurance, but was inspired to go with a more simple graphic look.
I’ve kept the orange to myself. The lime will be the living room incense holder, and the lemon will be given to a friend.
These were fun to make and I plan on making more! Possibly add some blood orange and grapefruit! 🍊
