Mid-Year Review

It’s crazy to believe that 2019 is more than halfway through. From what I’ve discussed and lived through with family and friends, this year has been quite a roller coaster ride for everyone. I personally feel like I’ve experienced some growth, but also feel like I’ve taken two steps in other areas of life.

Here’s where I’ve been ~

// Career //

I started a new job at the end of January. I wasn’t too thrilled at my previous job, so it was a relief to start fresh with new responsibilities surrounded by new faces. It’s officially been six months since I’ve started there, and I’ve truly been super happy.

// Family & Friends //

This year started off with a death in the family. My paternal grandfather had passed from ALS back in January. He disintegrated within the span of three months – something that caught us all by surprise.

Then a couple of months ago, we lost another family member. My maternal grandfather had also passed. He had several health issues for years causing him to undergo quite a bit of surgeries. As he was in the hospital for one issue in June, he developed pneumonia which was what took his life. It was a surprise, and a devastating time for all of us here. My mother’s parents were much closer to us emotionally and vicinity, as opposed to my father’s parents whom live in Greece. The distance made it difficult to see them often, but the grandparents we had here in NY were there for my whole life. It was super hard to see him go, but he’s lived a long life and I hope wherever he is that he feels some peace.

I’ve welcomed new people into my life as well as developed relationships further with people that I met within the last few years. The people you keep in your life really make such a big impact on your state of mind and wellbeing. I’m really trying hard to keep friendships going with people that are worth the company and that bring no heartaches and dramatics. Some people live for it; I don’t.

// Trips //

It wasn’t so much a planned thing; they were very spontaneous – but I took two separate trips out to SF to visit my brother this year. One month apart from each other. They were both super short, but just the relaxing getaway I needed. As for upcoming travels, I’m planning my first trip to Denver in September! So far from talks and plannings, I know it’s gonna be such a fun time.

// Style & Crafts //

Starting this job back in january, I felt more creative freedom and relief to be working in a laid back environment. I kinda decided to have more fun with my hair. I sported a lot of blue and lavender a good chunk of the past six months.

To end on a positive note as August starts, I’ve been naturally trying to stay crafty. I worked on a handful of projects, as well as a lot of freelance. That actually got overwhelming at some point, but things have since cooled down and now I’m able to focus on myself and my own projects. I also have a couple of fun stuff in the works with friends that I can’t wait to share. It’s been keeping me motivated and creative. As much as I sometimes really feel like I need therapy, I know I can always go home and rely on projects being there for me to help me unwind at the end of the day.

So with that said, happy 8 months into 2019! I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year will bring.
